HONEYWELL’S JURID PAD TECHNOLOGY, USED IN THE NEW MERCEDES-BENZ ACTROS, NOW AVAILABLE FOR SN7 BRAKES IN COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

JURID® OEM Quality Now Available for Aftermarket Applications

Glinde, Germany, 1 August 2011 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON), a world leader in friction materials development, today announced the launch of a new high-quality OE disc brake pad for commercial vehicles equipped with SN7 brakes. Honeywell is the only manufacturer of the pad with the patented Metlock® bonding system.

As from now, the original brake pad in JURID OE quality is not only available as OEM equipment for the new Mercedes-Benz Actros, but is also available as an aftermarket product for older Actros and other commercial vehicles with SN7 brakes. The new JURID 29 253 0 539 0 brake pad, which replaces the old JURID 29 108 1 539 0 pad, sets new benchmarks for safety and security. It is expected that old pads for SN7 brakes will be taken out of the market by the end of 2011.

Dr. Heribert Schumacher, vice president, Global Engineering at Honeywell Friction Materials, said, “The success of our brake pads is the result of a close collaboration between the vehicle and brake system manufacturers. This success strengthens every day our high reputation as a key OE supplier for heavy trucks.  With this new pad, we are adapting all the OE knowledge and quality of our JURID products to the aftermarket so independent garages can offer best-in-class CV brake pads to their customers.”

Worry-free installation thanks to pad restraining system ProTec S®
Overall braking performance is boosted by the retaining system ProTec S® developed by Knorr Bremse. For the first time, this technology includes a welded hood that covers the spring, prevents it from being removed and binds it with the backing plate. This design eliminates the unsafe practice of reusing old springs with new brake pads. As a result, this newly patented technology makes the change of pads safer and quicker for all SN7 brakes.

Superior shearing resistance with the patented Metlock® bonding system
Honeywell is the only manufacturer in the world to use the Metlock® process, designed and patented by Honeywell, to address the specific performance demands of commercial vehicle braking applications. For the first time, Honeywell succeeded to use the Metlock® technology on a cast iron backing plate in this brake pad for SN7 applications.  With Metlock®, a special coating, sinter-fused onto the backing plate, securely binds the friction material to the backing plate, even under extreme temperatures (up to 900ºC). This extremely high temperature stability and capability coupled with the fact that the contact area is now twice as large improves dramatically the performance of brake pads.

Peace of mind with data matrix code
The new pad for SN7 brakes comes with a tamperproof data code to ensure aftermarket customers get genuine JURID products. This code contains an encrypted data matrix that not only guarantees the original quality of the pad, it also traces the entire production process and protects garage operators from poor quality counterfeit products.

The new brake pad design is compatible with all existing pneumatic air disc brake applications. Up to date, the most important commercial vehicle applications for the OE quality JURID 29 253 0 539 0 brake pad are:
